This Greek Street SHOP was the original home of Steve Lazarides' gallery - best known as home to a group of contemporary artists that includes Jamie 'Gorillaz' Hewlett and graffiti artist Banksy. When the Lazarides Gallery moved to Rathbone Place this Greek Street venue - a former Soho sadomasochists' boutique (complete with dark-red walls and a sign that pointed to the 'dungeon') - was turned into SHOP, selling posters, prints and cult ephemera from the same stable of artists Lazarides represents. These are artists who work in non-traditional media like comics, spray-painted walls, and even taxidermy, and many will already be familiar from flyers, album covers and other pop culture imagery. The art work is fun, rebellious and much more accessible than most contemporary art.
