Covent Garden's Piazza returns to its original purpose, as a food market, every Thursday from 16th April until 24th September. The Real Food Market brings fresh produce to the centre of town with over 32 different stalls including free range chickens from SJ Frederick & Sons (a Gordon Ramsay favourite), cheeses from Neal's Yard Dairy and mushroom sandwiches from the Spore Boys... just leave room for Crumbs & Doilies' cupcakes. It's a fantastic idea, returning after popular runs for the past two years, and provides a wonderful way to spend a summer's day (even if the weather doesn't play ball you can always duck under the covered areas). Look out for special appearances from food bloggers and micro brewers, cookery demonstrations and large scale one-off events like 'The Big Lunch' by The Eden Project (on Sunday 19th July). Combining the Piazza's reputation as a centre for live classical music and food, the Roots and Flutes long weekend (Thursday 25th to Saturday 27th June) plays out a free concert while you sample the goods from the stalls. Altogether, a very civilised way to go to market.
