London Remembers the Queen Mother
The Queen Mother died peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 101, on the afternoon of Saturday 30 March 2002. Her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, was by her side when she passed away at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
On Easter Sunday, her coffin was carried to the nearby Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor before being moved to the Queen’s Chapel, St James’s Palace, in central London, on Tuesday 2 April. Gun salutes could be heard across the capital on Monday 1 April from 12noon as they were fired every minute for 40 minutes in Hyde Park, the Tower of London and Woolwich.
